Where there was once an ending that offered some hope of a better life, you’re now left with two sheltered girls raising a baby in a world they don’t know with horrible people at every turn.My Sweet Audrina is a 1982 novel by V. There is now a baby and Audrina may be trapped in the house forever because she can’t sell it but she can’t really leave her sister alone with the baby. The word disgusted is the only way I can describe this and feels like it isn’t modeled after My Sweet Audrina.

Then he already planned to have another baby with Sylvia hoping for a boy, with the implication that the nurse was in on it. Then you for sure find out that he raped her challenged sister, Sylvia, after he’d previously had an affair with her half-sister in MSA. Audrina now knows who one of her attackers is but not the others, it’s a secret that has destroyed parts of her life and you’d think she’s push a little to find out who they were but no. It’s always been an issue that Arden knew who attacked Audrina as a little girl and instead of telling her or the police or his mother or her father that he will just blackmail a little old lady into doing things for him and keeping their secret about the baby. As for Arden, in MSA I liked him enough despite his issues, but now he’s a narcissistic rapist.

There is all this background on Audrina and Vera’s relationship but not one mention about how Vera tried to kill her or participated in her rape, which was extremely relevant to this story but not mentioned at all. She was upset but immediately let it go, she was drugged and couldn’t even be mad about it. Audrina never stayed mad, the nurse and her husband decided it was cool to put tranquilizers in her food.

I thought the characterization of Audrina was fairly consistent with the house and its memories seem to choke her and it’s hard for her to function in it, but some plots were just dropped. I know it was set in an older timeline but it was written in 2017 where you know better than to write some of the things coming out of various characters’ mouths. But the bit that set me off was the widow declaring her husband had a mentally challenged girl strip and touched her because “he’s an artist.” I dislike how nearly all VC heroines are victimized but this one takes the cake. Audrina may be the only character who is upset by other female characters, including herself, being attacked and taken advantage of in a “VC” work, so that is at least some progress. Whitefern was one terribly long drawn out singular plot I guessed by chapter three. My Sweet Audrina was a truly disturbed and generally messed up book, but there were a few plots intertwined and at least interesting. But this isn’t a VC novel, it’s an Andrew Neiderman destruction of VC’s stand alone. I think what people who like VC Andrews’ books acknowledge is that the books are somewhat trashy or scandalous, but enjoy them anyway. I’m so angry at this book, this is a rant more than review.
